2011 Columbus Pride Parade & Festival

2011 marked the 30th anniversary of Stonewall Columbus' Pride Parade & Festival. With the apropos theme "Celebrating 30 Years of Pride," festivities drew over 200,000 people to downtown Columbus and the Short North on Saturday, June 18th, 2011.

Making its 9th annual Pride Holiday appearance, the Capital Pride Band proudly led the 2-mile long parade through the city with a rousing rendition of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. Under the direction of Artistic Director Leigh Briggs, the band was 66 members strong, including 54 musicians, 4 flag twirlers, 7 auxiliary, and 1 drum major.

At the festival, CapPride's stage show/street performance entitled "Pride: Then and Now" played off of Stonewall's overall theme. The audience was treated to "then" selections Jenny/867-5309, Livin' on a Prayer, and Don't Stop Believin' and "now" numbers Pump It, Poker Face, and Bad Romance. The entire festival performance is up on YouTube, as is footage from the parade.

The Pride celebration actually got underway a week earlier for many of us, as 43 CapPriders (39 musicians, 4 auxiliary) journeyed to Indianapolis on June 11 to participate in their parade. Kudos to the Pride of Indy marching and jazz bands on their performances, and thank you once again for your hospitality. A great time was had by all who made the trip!
